Started Locksmithing

I have been working at a locksmithing business for about 6 months now, and they have not shown me how to pick locks yet. I am under the understanding that I will have to put in my time as a locksmith apprentice (understandable). But how long is standard before you should be shown how to pick locks.

What have you been doing for them? Just teach yourself, start with the MIT guide to lockpicking: http://www.blurofinsanity.com/mit/lockpick.html
and go from there. Get a pickset, and then start practicing.

Yeah, I'm with TOWCH here. What'rya waiting for them to teach you for? Impress them right good and learn on your own. Man, if I'd have had the opportunity to sit in a locksmith shop while I was first learning, I'd have been like a kid in a candy store!

I used to own a tree trimming service for over 30 years, when I get someone new that wants to work, they do start out as a grounds man, can not touch a tree or any chain saws very dangers, but after 6 months they should know most of all the tools and able to start climbing and trimming there first tree. Then after 7 months I make them go to arborist training school I pay for this.

Just ask you boss if you can start teaching you, I do know in the USA in my state that if you work for a locksmith he (the owner) well need to get a background check on you and you will get a license to carry your picks. This will cost the owner about $150 plus all the paper work.

The owner may fell that you may not stay very long to invest the $$$ to get you licensed, you could tell the owner that you are willing to pay for the background your self.

But after 6 months I myself would have you licensed, have you start taking some locksmith classes (I would pay for it), and have you out in the field working and make money for me.
