hi all.i got a call from a worried lady last night just before ten oclock she told me that from leaving her daughters house to getting home she had lost her keys but that she had spare keys in the house.i asked what locks she had on the door she told me there was a yale and mortice lock but didnt know what make i quoted 90 quid for me to come out and get her in she was pleased with the price and gave me her address.when i arrived there i found there was a era pro fit which i managed to decode fairly quickly and the yale lock only took seconds with good old trusty mica she was gob smacked how id got in so quickly with no damage to the lock or door and later told me that she had rung around a few other locksmiths and only two companys actually could be bothered to pick up the phone she told me that i was the cheapest by far and the other two lookies told her both locks would have to be drilled and was quoted by one it would be 130 plus vat for the first hour and 90 plus vat for the second and it would more than likely take more than an hour to do.i even changed the lever packs on the era over and gave her two new keys just in case someone had her keys.am i undercharging or just being honest and not ripping people off

She should have called me, I would've done it for £60 before 10pm you rip off merchant, who did you get trained by?
Nah, seriously, that's the way forward. Hopefully, one day in the future, these drill happy cowboy locksmiths and firms will be a thing of the past. As long as the public learn like this that you can get in without damaging the locks then it can only be good for us that do it.

Neibours are the very worst customer second only to family and mates, they all expect somthing for nothing, last time i did a neibour she said the same 'sorry i dont have any money, can you let me off and ill buy you a drink when i see you out' i asked if i could go into the local green grocers when she was next on the tills and do the same, she went in the back and came out with the money there and then, bloody cheek.

it infuriates me that some people just dont think they should have to pay for a service just because it didn`t take long!!! i was at the locksmith shop of a former employer a few years back and a suited guy ran in flush-faced, it seemed he`d locked the keys in the ignition of his fiesta on the double yellows outside the post office. I agreed that i`d pop it open for him if he paid for our sandwiches for lunch! fair deal or what? he said ok.......i promptly opened it.......he grinned and said he had no money......i pushed the button back in and slammed it locked again......he swore at me.......the traffic warden wrote his ticket.

The time thing really does make people think they are being ripped off, ive now got to the point now where i make a big deal about how good their lock is and waste time before slipping the latch when they lose interest and arent looking. I got sick of people moaning when i got them in too quick so this new approach has knocked all that on the head.
Its a strange psychology, they ring and ask how much and how long will it take to get there, "as soon as possible please" etc etc then you get there let them in in minutes and they complain. Now when im running late due to traffic etc then have a killer of an opening that takes ages, they think your fantastic.....go figure that one ,as im sure a lot of you here have experienced that a few times.

Im with you there,
The other annoying thing is when they say they need quick access then jump on their mobile and stay on it even after youve opened the door, they continue to chat away saying 'oh yes ive got the locksmith round ive lost my keys' and leave you waiting 10 mins after youve opened the door before they say 'hang on the locksmith wants me for somthing' and i say money and they spend another 10 mins on the phone before saying 'the locksmiths tapping his watch ive got to go or else he will get upset' i got upset 20 mins ago darling
Ive taken to trying homemade tools on them first before useing commercial proven methods problem is when the homemade tools work better and open the door quicker.
I must admit vehicles are a pain as far as speedy openings are concerned, its not easy to make one look hard

But if there's a bird chained to a bed, the chainer must be around somewhere.
Better be quick then, eh Shrub?

shrub,
you said bird chained to the bed well i got that call a few months ago but on that saturday night ( the only 1 i have had off in a long while ) i got a call on my mobile from a woman saying hi this is a bit embarrasing but i am hancuffed to the bed blah blah i explained i was not working and i was out with a mate i had not seen for a while but she pleaded with me to go to her, in the end i had to put the phone down on her.
anyway me and a couple of mates were laughing about it, but here is the best bit the saturday after around the same time ( this time i am working ) i get the same phone call from the same woman giving the same story so i let her plead and plead asking her questions on how she has got into this situation and she tells me, then in the end i said to her you must be very unlucky love coz you did the same last week remember you phoned me? then she put the phone down.
thing was she gave me here address ect so she would have gone along with it although it was all staged
WEIRD OR WHAT?

I've had the same call Cred, but from the boyfriend saying his lady was handcuffed to the bed...
Also had a call one Sunday from someone who said he'd locked himself out with the oven on and he was afraid it would catch fire so could I hurry. Hurried away, and when I got there there was nobody outside (here we go) and the bloke in the house knew nothing about it. He said there was a hostel opposite and they were always sending people round. This d1ck's mobile number showed up but did he care? Tried phoning the number but he just phoned back with loads of abuse. Absolutely livid, but what can you do...
