What pick set for Ford ignition

Hi, New to the board and looking for some reccomendations on a pick set. I am looking for a decent set to pick the ignitions on mid 90's Ford vehicles. Now before you think I'm a picky car thief, here's my story. My brother and I sometimes purchase abandonded/wrecked cars from the local tow yard/ police impound auctions. They are much easier to load/move with an unlocked steering wheel and shifter. The last one I purchased was picked by the tow yard and then I just drove it onto the trailer. I'm not looking to spend alot of money on this (due to the infrequent use). Basically want to save the cost of a locksmith and learn a new skill.

I have a few Lockout tools and have enjoyed helping out a few friends in the past and would like to add a set of picks to my setup.

they will likely have transponder keys and the like.... really not worth it.

For the hassle you'll get just get a lockie to come and do it... since it's infrequent less likely to be a problem.

I understand your reluctance.

The cars we are buying don't have transponders and even if they do, it's nice to be able to get it out of park and steer it to load it onto the trailer. The last car I bought, (that the lot picked for me) was a special case. This was a police auction at the contracted tow lot. The owner of the lot wanted some parts off of the car, so I made a deal with him. He wouldn't bid against me if I sold him the parts he wanted. After the auction, he had his guys pull the parts he wanted and was also nice enough to have them pick the lock while they were at it (free).

Well as you dont have the keys what you really need to know is how to remove the ignition altogether so you dont have to pick the lock whilst driving down the road (steering lock) You will need to change the ignition anyway so my advice is to just break the ignition off, its your car so your not breaking the law.

We wont discuss the picking of car locks in the public section but as ive alreay said picking the lock isnt going to help you as the only real use is if you have the keys at home or elsewhere and are going to get them back.

Um, I know of a mechanics trick that works on vehicles with the shifter on the steering column... It doesn't allow you to start the car, but allows you to turn the steering wheel. But i'm kind of afraid to post it here.

Let me rephrase that...

I know of an old mechanics trick thaat allows you to "shift" the vehicle into nuetral, so that you can move it, on some vehicles it aalso allows the steering wheel to move.

TOWCH, thanks for the PM, I'll have to give that a try, the funny thing is, the last car I purchased had that "particular tool" in the trunk. Most of the cars we buy are being parted out so damage isn't really a concern. Picking is nice because you can turn the key to the run position, push the release pin and pull the whole lockset out so it can't relock on you.
