Picked my first lock... can't get enough!

Postby n8rpot8r » 6 Dec 2005 0:25

I recently became interested in lock picking and after reading howstuffworks and doing several searches on this site I picked my first lock!

It was my Girlfriends Brinks "home security" lock box... ha ha... what a joke  after picking that a bunch of times (lost track after about 50) I went out and bought a master lock no 3.

Needless to say I was pretty disappointed when I picked it in less than a minute after opening it, I just looked at my g-friend and laughed, she was less than impressed with the security that locks provide, but I didn't care I was having fun :D

So, now that I have picked that countless times... what is next? I need something that is tougher - yet not impossible.

Oh yeah... almost forgot - tools used: little jacknife lockpick - started with the pin by pin method... then used the double diamond for raking.

Also, what should I expect to pay for some decent picks that don't hurt my hands so much? And what is a good set from what company?

I am going to give that home made snap picks... cause it looks really cool! Will let you know how that goes too.

Thanks ahead of time for any ideas!

later dudes! Sorry I covered so much in one message but I had to get it out quick before it was lost in my melon!

Good Post! Try a Schlage or Weiser. A Yale Padlock may be good too (and cheaper :D ), but its a little harder than the other two.

I would say go for the Schlage. You might be disappointed with the Weiser when you get that puppy open in a minute or so too. If the Schlage proves to be too difficult, you've always got the option of removing pin stacks and working your way up, so if you're going to err, err on the side of "too difficult".

Cheers!

Try a master 140 - it has a few spools and will give you the challenge you need.

Sweet... Thanks for the tips guys. I definitely think I will err on the side of too difficult, because while it was pretty cool that the masterlock 3 took under a minute... I now have a lock that I wouldn't trust to lock anything worth any value up with

P.S. - it is fun picking your girls box isn't it 8) just remember its not the size of your pick its how you use it :P ...... yeah right, thats just something guys with small picks say!!! :D and the bigger the tension "tool" the better - I prefer to use a 3 foot cheater bar  LOL

Yeah... figured that out already - because I can't open the master lock even with the key any more :o oops!!! I guess some things you have to learn the hard way.

I am guessing that the lock is a little fubar'ed from me practicing the raking technique... I don't use that much, but it is kinda fun to show off how fast it can be done. Oh well, the G-friend is getting a little annoyed with the, "check it out! I'm really fast at this!" anyway.

Besides, I didn't wanna get the old knock on the door from five-O thinking I was trying to break into anything... that would seem a little suspicious to me anyway.

Later,
