That's very nice crap you have around your yard. If you have a lot of it, have you thought about making some more and sticking them in the 'Buy/Sell' section? I don't mean complete with locks, just a lock board with the holes pre-drilled and some eyes for the padlocks. :)

I'd like to make something like this, but as a box that can be opened only when all the locks have been picked. The person who opens it could be treated to a prize of some sort.

Any ideas on internal mechanisms that would make this work?

Another lock !

That's a great idea, I might just make one.

hmmm... begin with a flat base, and put a central support into the middle that is as long as the supposrt is wide...

then have another piece of wood the same size as the base on the top of the centra support.

Put hinges onto the base and have pieces of wood the same shape and size as the base attached to the hinges by screws, and so this for all 4 sides of the base...

when the "doors" are pulled up they would lock into the top part on the central support.

Cam locks would be a good bet for this, but you could make a kind of catch mechanism to fit to the back of the other types, and so long as you only turn the plug 45 degrees when you've unlocked it would work okay in my oppinion.

you could put multiple locks on each door and only when they hhave opened then can the door be pulled down. Each door could have varying degrees of difficulty, or of type (one door for rim-cylinders, one for tubualr locks, one for dimple etc.....)

Well that's an idea I had some time ago, and it sounded good, but never got round to it - maybe someone here might try and make it

I'm having trouble visualizing this design, but what I can grasp sounds good.

So there's an internal wood structure, like a plus on the inside? I'm trying to figure out how each side of the box would support multiple locks, say 4 per side. A padlock on each side, perhaps ontop of the box, would also be cool.

This would be a very cool "finals" for a locksmithing class, or as something for students tinker with during the semester with the opportunity to win a very nice set of lockpicks.
