Best Lock

Hey, i'm new to lock picking, have picked a couple mundae 4 pin pad lcoks, now i'm working on a BEST 11b722 lock, its 6 pins. Was wondering if anybody had any info about the lock like if it has mushroom pins or false pins. Any other info on it would be nice.

Preform a search of the site. Best is usally a SFIC. I'd suggest going with cheeper locks like kwiksets before moving onto a SFIC.

BEST usually does not have security pins, to my understanding; however, the mechanism is goofy. Each pinstack has two shearlines, and they're not arbitrary; you need to get the "same" shearline on every pin, otherwise you can set them all and not open it. Try searching to learn more.

Clarification of SFIC and "double shearline":

SFIC is a control mechanism where the pinstack does not have 2 shearlines(it isnt masterlocked), but there are TWO CYNLINDERS(each with its own shearline).

This is too allow removal of the cynlinder without taking apart the lock.

If you pick the lower shearline, the plug will turn and you have an open lock.

If you pick the higher, than the entire plug + smaller cynlinder will open allowing you to remove them(the pin stack and cynlinder and all), and then you can pop in another or rekey that one, ect.

So basically 2 different keys product 2 results(opening or allowing removal).

So the point is that If you want to pick open the lock, then you only need to pick the bottom shearline and treat it like a normal lock.

Learning to pick both layers is a good skill to have imho, but I wanted to clarify that there wasnt "two shearlines in the pin stacks" and that you could pick either shearline to get it to open(even if you pick the entire top shearline)((of course it would be openable if you did pick the control shearline, but not in the sense of normal opening)).

edit:

I did a quick google on SFIC and found this link, has pictures and all:

Professor Blaze has published some of the most interesting articles on security and lockpicking, and he posts them on the internet to boot. It is definetly worth poking around his site for a while.
