I've never seen this type of key and was wondering if you guys had any ideas. Is it a different type of warded key?

Oh yes, there are plenty of those floating around. It seems nearly every discount lock company out there has made their own version of this disc-locking system.

cheap 9 disk locking system, similar disks to an Abloy exec and has no false cuts.

 Abus makes many different kinds of locks; dimple locks, disk locks, and normal pin-tumblers. You can't just say "an Abus lock" an expect us to know what it is. The lock you have pictured is an Abloy knock off with 7 disks. I believe you got that picture from an eBay auction.
