Aw come on Jason! Tell us who it was that flipped you that bird?

j/k. So what's next then? Medeco? Abloy? Kaba? At this point I'd believe just about anything is possible. 8)

Well, I won't lie, Bird are one of the worse cylinders on the market. Also, once you have picked it ten times, you really ought to be changing the pins about, otherwise it will get easy, as you will know exactly what to do.

Get yourself another Bird and repeat, then get yourself that Yale.

I take it you've read up on how to strip it down and change it about then?

Take it apart in a sarnie bag the first few times so the springs don't escape if you ness up the follower.

Try putting the spools in the front two positions as a first try, as it will be easier to work on them there than when they are nearer the back.

remember as you lift them try to bounce the tension wrench slightly - this will make the spool pins literaly jump up to the shher line - just make sure you apply enough tension to keep all the pins set.

a methord I have found to work, but I have yet to try it on many cylinders is to false set all the spool pins on purpose, and as I lift up the spool pins let the plug do as it wants - it turns back to the unlocked position slightly as I lift the spool pin, and when I feel it is set I'll put normal tension back on and go for the other spool pins... you have to keep a tiny bit of tension but the plug needs to be able to turn slightly as the spool pin is lifted.

Mad Mick did an animation which I feel explains what I do - not sure where it is though.

I don't know if this methord is called something, but it has opened a lock with 4 spool pins within 30 seconds before - It has worked on two locks that I have tried it on - a euro-profile Iseo cylinder, and a custom-pinned Yale cylinder.

ya i tryed that 1 time because the spool is a gap in the middle so applying torque makes the plug go into the middle then its inpossable so you either use little torque or not at all. 8) i forgot to make 1 of the keys work with the 3 bottom pins. but so i have been able to set 2 pins. At least if i can set spools i mite be able to do some average padlocks in the near furture.
