Car lock questions

Postby greyman » 19 Dec 2005 12:46

I have a couple of questions on car locks that I need some help with :?

1. Which car manufacturer first introduced the "convenience key"? That is, a reversible wafer lock key with the same cuts on both sides.

2. Is the Ford Tibbe lock made in Germany or the US? I know this comes in both Chubb Ava and Abloy varieties, but I don't know much else.

Thanks in advance.

Do you mean keys with the same cuts on both sides when the lock is actually double-sided, or when it's a single-sided wafer lock and the key is solely a convenience?

I believe he's referring to the latter.

Yes - sorry, I should have said that. I meant the wafer lock is single sided whereas the key is cut double sided so it can be used either way - for convenience. Does anyone know when this type of usage was introduced in car locks?
