nope, unless you lose some of the pins there is no damage to the lock.

Read my guide on taking apart a cylinder lock - it has a load of photos that will guide you through it.

It can be found in the FAQ section of this site

Well, you could actually damage the springs, so there is a chance. But if you're careful, you'll be fine, and if you're clumsy you'll know what not to do afterward. :P

be very careful with he springs when removing the cover. I wasn't paying attention one time and springs went flying everywhere. This doesn't happen on all locks though.

I've reassembled a lock while not paying attention and forgot to load a bottom pin in. When the cylinder when back together the top pin fell down into the empty chamber in the plug and the spring was sitting across the shear line. Things just got messy from there. :(

Anyway... pay attention and be careful and you'll be fine I'm sure. :)

yeah... this happened to me

ruins the spring when you take the plug out - maybe a comb-pick would work to lift the spring all the way up into the lock housing?

Yes, I had considered making a tool specifically to save the spring, but then it occurred to me that it's just a spring. 8)
