So do you want to be a locksmith or an electrician?

You may want to have a job to fall back on when you are starting up as a lockie... it seems for at least a year you won't be able to make much money and you'll find the extra income useful.

also if it all goes tits-up you won't be left without a job...

having said that I'm not a lockie, but it's been said before by lockies and seems to make sense...

out of interest though... is there such a thing as a "bonafide locksmith" in England anyway???
I thought it was because there isn't that the "drillerz" are able to work in the first place.

The MLA route leads to an NVQ , but takes 4 years to complete, other than this " NO BONAFIDE QUALIFICATION CURRENTLY EXISTS IN THE UK LOCKSMITH INDUSTRY" , full stop.

Until this changes , soon hopefully , its sadly a free for all for all sharks and crooks to exploit.

Your age may be against you, as most bonafide training organisations wont train you until 18 years old.
Teach yourself picking from this site for now, as to try and take on training and apprenticeships in 2 very complex subjects at the same time could leave you learning neither fully or properly. Do it right, both are excellent trades, though being a sparky will earn you more quicker.

it's no real problewm mate - just consider how decent at lockie work you will be before you are trained with all the practice... than imagine how awesome you'll when you get trained.

Get practicing now, and when the time comes you'll be fully prepared.

Pinky: thanks for clearing that up, didn't think there was such a thing as a "bonafide lockie" at the moment.
