Name This Key?

Postby Auto45 » 27 Dec 2005 2:10

Some one gave me this key knowing that its my hobby; I have never seen this one before, anyone knows what this is? I have been using it as a screwdriver. All the cuts, are all different.
Thanks

I believe the term you were looking for was "cruciform", skold
These locks are often found on "The Club" locking bars.

Yup, that's a cruciform key. Although not restricted to steering wheel locks, it can still be found on deadbolts and front door locks.

Thanks, wish I had the lock that is came with, would like to have a try at it, the only Clubs I seen just use regular 3 to 4 pin locks or they are tubular, very easy to pick.

Hey Auto - I took the lock you are refering to apart a month or so ago and posted a few photos....

they are poor quality I'm afraid but you might find them useful.

also keeep your eyes peeled for Raimundo's mini-guide to make a pick forr these on the second page

mine was founf on a copy of the "Club" steering wheel lock

there are also a few links to other pages about cruci-form locks in this thread :)

here's the link:

I guess it wouldn't be unreasonable to say they are similar to a dimple lock, though the key way is + shaped and the pins enter the chamber at 90 degrees.

The Papaiz cruciform lock is a devil, spooled in every pin chamber :(

better than the one I have at least then... it only has about 3 different pin sizes... would proabably open if you looked at it nastily and shouted loudly

it's actualy crud all round - but fun to pick when feeling like something else...
the steering wheel lock which has this lock sells for like £10 on Ebay so someone might be interested in playing about with them.
the cylinder is much to easy to get out as well using a hacksaw and aoout 10 mins or work

would be interested in getting a Papaiz version of the cruciform lock - sounds cool.

The thing that is really bugging me is that Auto45's key looks identical to mine :?

FWIW: My 'Club' does not have a cruciform lock. My "Gorilla" however does. The Gorilla is a different brand of steering wheel lock.

Yeah, I could be wrong, but I don't think the the cruciform locks are ever used on genuine "The Club" brand locking mechanisms. I've only ever seen them on cheaper knockoffs - which in it self is silly because surely this has got to be harder to pick than the genuine Club. :)

this lock isn't really hard to pick though db... the one I've got at any rate opens quickly - were it necesary to turn the key 360° then you would need to pick it 4 times to open it... as the pins would fall into the next chambers as it is turned.

however on the one I have you only need to turn it 45° to unlock so no need to re-pick it... it is not difficult to pick either, and after you find a way to apply tension then it isn't hard.

Looking at the key I'm contemplating making a bump-key for this lock... I mean it does have top and a bottom pins so it should work... interesting idea, dunno if it's really worth looking into though...

Has anyone had any luck with a bump key?

I did find some post this key is used for other lock beside the Club
http://www.adventus.com/devon/lp101/papaiz1.jpg

I am going to buy one off Ebay, try making a pick out of 4 diamond picks.

Then file the found key down and see if I can make a bump key out of it.
