Medeco Padlock Rekeying

Hello guys, I am new to this site and i actually just found it(great site by the way)but anyway now i have my first question on a medeco padlock. i recently purchased a medeco keymark padlock with 1 functional key but it is kinda damaged. Now since i do not have the card for the lock i cannot get a copy made. Now what i was thinking of doind was recoring the lock with a different keyway but i dont really know anything about this padlock it's self. i am kinda new to medeco and am still gathering info about them off this website. Here are a few questions i need help with:

1. can this lock take another keyway?
2. I do not have the core key for this lock can anything be done about this so i can rekey the lock?
3. do the keymark locks have a slide bar?
4. Does anyone know if i can just get a blank key(and where) so i can copy it myslef?(i have a normal key machine but i can file if i have to)
5. what keyway do these keys goto ?
-1515 Medeco (5-Pin) and (6-Pin)
-1517 Medeco (5-Pin) and (6-Pin)
-A1515 Medeco 5 and 6 pin
-A1517 Medeco 5 and 6 pin

I would leave it as it is and just have it for picking practice, buy another lock if you want to use it for somthing.

Im sorry but i cant offer you any words of wisdom for your questions but thought i would just say the above, theres a lot of members here that would love to have that lock just for playing with

Oh i am gonna play with another one. i just wanna know if i can rekey this lock if i can. i have another one that i might be getting soon so one is my play lock and the other i need to lock up my trailer that holds my nice dirtbikes.

The good news (or bad news, depending on what you're looking for) is that Keymark cylinders don't use the Biaxial technology; there's no sidebar or anything. They're just normal pin tumblers. The security comes from the patented keyway and restricted blanks.

Now can the lock accept in anyway a different keyway ? can a new core or cylinder or something be put in this lock that can make this lock have a slidebar?

Proper term is sidebar, but if the lock is a LFIC (large format interchangeable core) then you will need a control key to remove the existing keymark core. You could also pick it to the control shearline to remove it. A picture of the bottom of the lock may tell us more.

You can probably get specs from Medeco about that particular model.

OK here is a picture of the bottom of the lock. Now i have no idea how to get this core out. Does the core key turn to the left ? Cuz the key i have turns to the right. Any help would be great thanks james

I was looking at the keyway and wow it will be hard to pick. What is the name of the pick that i would have to use to pick this ? now i am not to bad at picking i have picked some schlages and similar stuff before but it has been awhile since i have tried anything so i am gonna get used to it again on some easier ones then try to crack this one. Any suggestions ?

I have one of those..... I cant pick it yet. Maybe a bump key will work. Those cylinders look like they all carry the same keyway pattern. The best pick to use would be one you made especially for the lock, maybe in an 'L' shape to get past the wards.

now i dunno but i am guessing that this lock probably has some kind of security pins in it to make picking it alot harder. one thing i wanted to say is that when i put the key i have in the lock it feels like it almost will turn the other way ie what the core key does. only if i had a few blanks i could mess with them and see if i could get it to turn all the way but i am pretty sure the keymark keys are still restricted and i would not be able to find them anywhere but again i am not sure.

You are probably right about the security pins. I know mine has spools in it.
