On EVVA MCS and KABA Penta....

Postby SkyDancer » 31 Dec 2005 16:20

Hi again.

I am just wondering have anyone heard of successful lock picking done on locks with the EVVA MCS and Kaba Penta keying system?

Or...as the key blank is strictly controlled...at least manage to decode it?

Curious:)

Thank you

Candice

I'm pretty sure this is restricted topic because it is a high security lock, you can read the rules here.

Nope, fair game for public forums as I see it.

Well im jst looking into the Evva now, its not been picked as far as i know and it does look like a formidable lock.

Zeke has a cutaway so he may be better to reply to that one as im sure he would have been playing with it.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for supporting my query:) Glad that most do not find my posting on EVVA and Kaba Penta to be out of line. As I am only curious on the success not the process of picking it:)

Definitely no intention to contradict the rules of this forum:)

While I have never seen anyone picking a penta I can't see why it shouldnt be possible, it's a regular pintumbler, no security pins, 4 different pin-hights, and uhhm .... up to 25 pins.

I expect John Falle has a decoder for the MCS. I don't know if any of the traditional dimple lock tricks work on the Penta, but I'm sure it's been done.

I think people mention the Kaba Penta as a hard lock to pick because of the Toool video in which Han Fey and Barry Wels can't bump it. I can't remember exactly why they can't, but I think it is something to do with the shape of the pins at the point they touch the key; I could be wrong.

In principle, the Penta should be vulnerable to both kinetic picking and foil impressioning, for the reasons members have mentioned above. Kaba do use a wide variety of keyways and pin locations, which would make typical impressioning methods hard, but the picker can surely always find the shape of the impressioning key needed by simply examining the lock. Then it just becomes a question of machining the key.

Surely someone can confirm that this has been done? Or maybe it hasn't!
