I picked up this little gem of a toolbox at Walmart the other night, and I must say that I am thoroughly impressed!

Those pictures all make me smile, they look so familiar. :)

Actually, MIT, we have a Wallmart near us (Swindon area) ... It's called Asda Wallmart. Some clue about big business there I guess.

Illusion: In the bottom left corner of your black case (second picture), are those brass colored key shaped tools the tools for opening the Schlage style wafer locks? Wafer as in not disc tumbler.

yes you're right they are :)

I have only used them once... and it was nothing amazing to be honest, but yes you're right. The two brass ones and the spiked thing with the red handle are used.

Nice collection!

I use the red plastic small object / tackle boxes from Sears; they're $3.50 each for 13 compartments or $6.50 for 17 much larger compartments.

Add in an electronic labeling machine for what's really an optimal solution for keeping a collection. (mine at the moment consists of five of the 13 compartment boxes for mortise, rim, and euro cylinders and blanks plus a 17 for the padlocks.)

Tools, on the other hand... I use a blue first-aid kit bag from REI. From the outside it looks nothing like a lock-pick bag, perfect for when I'm called on to open a filing cabinet a floor above the campus police office.

I just got a tackle box two days ago, and I can't think of anything that would work better to keep my lock picking stuff in. I've just started picking a few months ago and don't have many tools, but I filled it up pretty good, although it's still got room to grow. I keep my picking tools I use often fairly spread out, so once I open the box everything is presented in front of me. I also keep a small file set, some graphite, plug follower, tweezers, small screw drivers, bump keys and some extra keys and blanks. The black thing in the top compartment is my bump hammer, actually a roller from a toner cartridge (until I get something better, it seems to work fine though, better than screwdriver handles and the like). The bottom has enough room for a few locks to carry around as well.

It cost around $10 at Sears. It even has some things at the sides for fish hooks / bait or whatever fishermen use it for, that I could lock some padlocks onto. Here are some pictures. Below each thumbnail is a link to the larger image:

Eventually you'll end up with a box up to your hip full of tackle boxes full of locks, pin kits, misc. spare parts and pick sets. Along with projects you've completed along the way. My box is full of the above and only just fits under my pool table.

Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....
