Picking a Masterlock "911"

Postby Gear Head » 21 Jan 2006 1:43

I have a masterlock 911, the huge yellow padlocks with the black antishim guard on top. This thing is driving me nuts, its the only lock I haven't been able to pick. The back of the lock inside also feels pretty funny, I would disect it but I lack the security bit screwdriver to release it, and don't feel like hacking it up.
What is inside of there? I think half my problem is the tension bar, and the fact that the cylinder is spring loaded. It also has a wierd keyhole cover that prevents me from picking it in the other direction. I belive there is a security pin inside, but it doesnt feel like a spool, which are the only ones I have encountered. There is still something funny past it but I think I am feeling through the lock. It felt kinda like a ward, but I looked at the key and don't think there is one. No idea what I am doing, and this is probly the only hard lock I have in comparison with the others. :x

It's the 900.

I think I just can't tension it right as I only have one size wrench, and it's awkward.

I also think my problem is I lack enough skill to open it, and want to keep trying till I can get it. I'm just wondering if there is some type of trick built into it involving how the cylinder can move around inside of it.

You should definately make some more tension wrenches from windshield wiper inlays. IMHO a variaty of tension wrenches is even more important than a large sortiment of picks.

They are the same a an M1 keyway but with five pins and the driver pins are spools. With a bit of practice this lock will be a snap for you. They are the same as the 6100 series of master locks and the only difference is somethimes the keyways differ.

Very cool. The only security pins I have encountered were spools, but this felt different to me for some reason.
I guess I will snap out some tensioners before I try again.
