Trying to make myself useful

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Trying to make myself useful

Postby MudSlinger » 23 Jan 2006 18:00

I have been frequenting this site for some time now, partly because its is just about the best resource for information on locks and the art of picking them, and more importantly because of the strict moral guidelines and more often than not, hilarious commentary.

I feel however that I have not contributed very much as far as information goes, which is why I would like to make an offer to everyone.

Recently, the locksmith company I work for, Key Express bought out another locksmith buisiness, securitex. Securitex has been around for just about 80 years, and during this time has managed 2 take the trash out about 3 times. It is nothing less than a museum of locks and key blanks.

If anyone would like a picture or possibly breakdown of just about any lock, I have no doubt I can locate it in the shop and gladly strip it apart to photograph it and do the best I can to explain how it works.

Take it or leave it I just want everyone to know that its available if you need it.

If they DO get around to taking out the trash, see if you can get your hands on the "junk." Probably could nab some pretty cool stuff.

Ok well the trash is pretty much free Anything in particular you were looking for. There is everything from hardware like real old adams rite, also this shop used to be one of the main stations to buy and service lever tumbler locks. It does not just house every key blank imaginable, the majority of them are factory origonals.

Just to clarify

Postby MudSlinger » 25 Jan 2006 13:23

Hey sorry I was a bit gung-ho in my first post. I would just like to clarify that the shop has just about any hardware that has been frequently used in america[i], such as very old American, Corbin, arrow, Yale, tons of old schlage, and many many others I couldnt think of at the moment.

Its not impossible but the chance of me finding a very foreign lock is pretty slim. Also plenty of Brand new Mul-T-Lock, Medecco and ASSA by the way.

anyway thats it.

I too would love to buy some of the "trash". That is how I got the majority of my locks now, buying lots off ebay where a couple guys where closing out a long running shop and selling bulk lots. If you decide let me know, I will paypal you. thanx for keeping me in mind
I hear what you are saying.....that doesn't mean I agree with you....Just that I am nodding my head to placate you and silence your futile attempts to win the argument.

Some interesting questions have arisen that I should have thought about before posting.

I intended this as more of a pull-it-apart-and-take-pictures-of-it forum, But i should have realized people would want to buy them. This means I will have to go through my boss, who Im sure will have no problem at all with it. The main problem I now see with this post is that it will soon belong in the Buy/Sell forums. If you have a lock you want me to round up, I will do so, but as far as buying it, please leave me private message while I get some things figured out about this.
