Bumping SFICs -- POLL

Hrmm... I guess my inquiry is invalid or just blah.... Come on someone has to have some insight on my simple question?

Hrmm... so do you think that a snap pick would work on a BEST/SFIC, since it's generally the same principle of transfering energy from the pick to the pins? I don't want to go all out and get BEST keys to file down, when I could just use my snapick...

Ok, I'll bite. I've never actually tried, but I would think that from the pure physics perspective, I can't see why it would not. I'll give it a try and report back.

Thanks a lot for replying... The only thing that I could see as being diff between the 2 methods is: Bumping would make contact with the pins much more equally spread, in that with a snapper, you would have to make sure that the pick's surface is level with the pins Vs Bump keys, which by nature of the key, fit in 100% and make just about 100% level+equal contact with the pins, so long as you don't over/under file the depth points.

Hope it works... I haven't been able to get a best lock core yet to test.

I use WD-40 because my employeer buys it by the case in 2 oz cans. No particular like or dislike about it, Free is good !
If I had to pay for lube I would probably use triflow or a teflon based lube.

One of my friends lives by his snap pick(shiver) and yes he uses it all the time On IC core jobs.... He gets the conrol sheerline all the time....grrrmmmlll

Sort of back on topic...

Can anyone reccommend a good place to get a variety of IC cores? I'm looking for some double-letter keyways. In particular, the TD keyways.

Well, im sure im reviving this thread from the dead, but I recently got bump keys from clksupplies.com (email them and asked for a best IC key whatever keyway and all cut to a depth of 9, no questions asked). Anyways, I have a d and an L keyway bump keys. I'm able to bump both the control and the operating sheerline but not often. This is probably because I have to move the key back one pin because I dont currently have a file to file the bottom of the tip down. I was successful with bumping the D keyway, but the L keyway still remains unpumped. Hopefully this will change as I get access to a file (this weekend or sooner if i can find a hardware store in walking distance).

Some of you may cringe at the idea of WD40 as a lubricant for locks. Perhaps in this situation, the WD40 acts to "slow down" the springs a bit. Who knows, but if it works....

alright so i decided to try bumping locks today

I also decided sfic was the only game worth hunting like this

I took a,d keyways and cut 7 9s across on the A2 system.

was able to easily open a construction core but after 15 attempts on a fully pinned core the opening is elusive.

i am going to make sets for alll the key ways tommorrow
