Easy & convenient way to get out of handcuffs

Waiting out my time to the advanced section, but you can just get out of the handcuffs at the expense of them.
In a old police competition, one of my buddies found a key under a large banddaid on the guy's finger. That was pretty cool.

Destructive means of getting out of cuffs is probly not something for this forum, but then again the title isn't how to pick handcuffs.

For the record if you get the cheap thin cuffs, and the S&W ones, sometimes they have a almost unoticably fatter key to them. I have observed 2 different kinds of keys, the tube is just barley thicker on one, but it is enough a standard key can't open em.

I just finnished watching the movie U.S. Marshalls and the two special forces guys got out of handcuffs by breaking the arm off of some aviators and used the end to unlock the handcuffs.

I don't have any handcuffs so i cant try to see if it really works. But then again its hollywood. :wink:

It would have worked as long as the end of the sunglasses were small enough to fit into the keyhole and reach the pawl.

In practice, when an escape artist or magician escapes from thumb cuffs, it has more to do with controlling the manner in which they are applied, rather than any sneaky picking.

It would not work when the cuffs are applied by someone who truly understands the way they work, but since any time I used them, I did so in combination with handcuffs, it made "proper application" of the thumb cuffs impossible. Lucky me.

I don't suppose there's really any pro magicians/escape artists out there making their living escaping from thumb cuffs, so I guess I don't mind tipping the secret....

That's it. Once you straighten your thumbs, you can slide the cuffs off. If the spectator installing them really wrenches on them, it may be though, but they will come off, usually leaving some nasty red marks which help to "prove" just how tight they were on. With practice, you can slip in and out of them awfully fast.

(I don't know if I'm repeating myself here, and I'm not going back in this thread to check...)

I used to do a gag routing where my hands were secured behind my back with handcuffs, thumb cuffs, AND a chinese finger trap. I would stand facing the audience, and every now and then, pull my hand out in front of me to gesture, then move my hand back behind me and turn instantly around to show that I was still secured. Cute little bit. Had some fun with it. It took a lot of practice. Ironically, the hardest part was the chinese finger traps.

Anyway... that's it.

ok, I have another trick for cuffs for all of you......
You are all familar with the wiper blade inserts.....I usually find 2 sizes...the thick and the thin........OK....If you get a thin piece, and shove it in the opposite side that the cuff enters the ratchet side, and shove the shim under the ratchet, and over the locking wheel, then the cuff will open all the way up to the safety notch....then if you use your wrist as a fulcrom, and push the small peice into the locking bar the cuffs will come off..I have a great video showing this, however, I am not sure how to post video on here....If someone will PM me with the how to of the video upload, I can show you guys a really awesome trick...I can open cuffs...(any cuffs...hinge,chain,ankle...whatever) that aren't double locked in less than 5 seconds...never touching the key hole, and never "picking" the cuff per-say....more of a cuff bypass...if they are double locked...it takes me about 15 seconds.......great trick..and the best part is...that the small shim is so un-noticable, that you can keep it in your belt, in the same hole that the belt is buckeled to .....and you can't see it......When I get the PM I will post the video....I discovered this trying to find another way to open restricted keyway cuffs......(the REALLY small key hole)...and it works on all models that I have encountered so far.....

Chrispy apparently hasn't seen the Chubb cuffs I linked to awihle back--the 'standard security' ones had a lever lock (4 or 5 lever I believe), and the 'high security' ones used the Chubb AVA mechanism

Someone also linked to some cuffs that used a Medeco mechanism of some kind...
