Deadbolt vs. Mortise (UK & US)

If it were up to me, all locks would be recessed at least an inch to hinder picking.

How exactly are you going to pull a deadbolt? And with the anti-drill pins they've got they're certainly no picnic to drill. A solid Medeco deadbolt with a good MAG strike and kick plate on a good door is one he#$ of a solid setup and nothing short of a team and a battering ram is taking it down. I'm really hoping some American lockies will pitch in here.

True, but we both know that 99% of deadbolts are not built like the medeco, or here is aus the lockwood 007 / 008 / 777 most are lightly constructed and easy to defeat.

Yes, true, but there's plenty of quality deadbolts that aren't as expensive as medecos but will hold up just about as well to forced entry with the same setup as above, Schlage in particular comes to mind (about $26US for a single cylinder residential deadbolt, vs. about $150-200 for a medeco).
