question from a newbie

Hi I just signed up to this site hoping to find some help with a problem Im having. First and foremost Id like to say its a really cool site though Im not an expert in this domain and Im kind of lost. I know I should be posting this in the automotive section but I dont have the privilege to access it, so if this isnt allowed then I guess the mods could go ahead and delete it, if not... here's my q.

Some ****** as revenge put like a toothpick or a piece of a key in my car lock, so now I cant even get my key half way in. I was thinking of using a magnet but I realized keys arent attracted by magnets. Im guessing removing a toothpick and removing a piece of a key are two totally different things... but is there something I could attempt to try and remove this projectile? Or is it hopeless? Should I call a locksmith (which is something I dread doing, hence me posting on a forum looking for some hands on advice).

In any case, Id appreciate some of your input. Thanks,

Chris

If you lock into the lock, can you see the item blocking it. If so, how much room have your got to play with/in.

Also, have you tryed getting it out, if so what have you tried and how did it go?

I do know you can buy broken key extractors, but i have never used them or seen them up close, so I can't give you any advice regarding them.

Sorry I can't be of any real help.
The more information you supply, the more likely someone can.

Why do you dread calling a locksmith - most of the people on here are locksmiths, or people with a keen interest in locksmithing.

You want help yet offend the very people you seek help from!!!

The reason why he dreads calling a locksmith might be a pure cost factor. MONEY. If it is, get the lockie to give you an estimate about how much it will cost before he/she (or it  ) comes out.

Lockies are generally nice people.

(Please don't hurt me anymore, I did say you were nice....... )
