I think I could likely chew through this cable using my teeth :P

But if you put a good lock on it, you will not be able to pick it with some toilet roll like you can with a kensington lock (which is what i currently have).

Last time i checked, your teeth are harder than toilet roll.

yes... but I think that cable would likely break if you looked nastily at it...

it's more of a detturent. and your super padlock is going to do sodd-all to stop them cutting the cable...

If they cut the cable, they will have stolen a laptop with a large padlock locked to it. It will make it more dificult to sell it on, or use it without drawing atention to the fact that they have half of a laptop lock padlocked to the laptop. 8)

That should be an even greater deterant, because if they cut the kensington lock, then all they have to do is search the internet on how to remove it and it would reveal you need the expensive tool of a toilet roll. Whereas a decent padlock means that they will need to spend lots of time learning how to pick it, allong with buying of making the tools required to do so.

No reason to trouble with the padlock if you can just break the attachment.

I reckon with time you could get it off....

Stands to reason you are only rushed whilst you are actualy stealing it...unless you get a call from the police I guess...

it's little more thann a detturent, or a hindrance to an unprepared thief in my oppinion....

but then again.... tamayto, tomato...

The Scissor Clip Lock at the bottom of that page looks like exactly what the OP was looking for.

Unfortunately, you're still limited by the very flimsy universal laptop lockdown slot.

IMO, the cheapo style cables are good enough. They provide security that's right in line with the tiny (easily broken) lockdown slot.

If you want more security than those provide, then the adhesive style of lock plate is the way to go. Most of those adhesive loops are 2" x 2". Some are as big as 4" x 4". With 16 square inches of adhesive, those loops will never come off.

...of course, then you've got a big ugly chunk of metal glued to your notebook...

I don't know what the quality of the product.

my school uses these on LCD monitors. The metal seems pretty sturdy, and if i had to choose a lock it would either be this style, or a good combination lock. Remember, a lock only is as strong as the thing its connected to. IMHO, this style lock is more to detur potential criminals than anything else. Personally, i wouldnt leave my laptop alone (locked or unlocked) for more than 10 minutes or so.
