not that my 2 cents is worth much but so far the hook has served my purpose

having successfully picked 8 locks now I'm nowhere near a professional, but it seems to me as others have said that picking with a hook pick lets you feel what is actually happening and is truly helping you get better.

I have fount that most usefully picks are the half diamond and hook.

No matter what picks I try, I usually go back to them.

My favs. are.....the hook...#1 in my book, a medium hook such as the petersons slender jem....GREAT .....then I like the half diamond....as far as rakes go...I like the S rake...its the one that looks like a "W"...that opens them fast....for master locks...I only use a half ball..opens 100% of them every time...

Granted, I don't have much experience with picking yet, but I'll throw in my 2 cents.

On wafer locks, I had the best luck with the diamond. On pin tumbler locks, so far I'm having the best luck (and fun) with the hook. I've tried raking, but haven't had any luck with that and it just frustrates me.

In regards to tension wrenches, I like the feel of the twist-flex, but on this padlock I've been practicing on, the spring is so stiff that the twist-flex isn't able to turn the lock after it's picked. So I either start with the twist-flex and then move to a stiffer wrench (which can be really tricky!) or I just start with the stiff wrench.

They first pick i grab is always my hook pick i find more feel through it and can read the lock easier. Then mt next pick would be a half diamond. Not a lover of the rakes/snakes takes the fun out of it, but thats just my opinion. I use a stiff tension wrench, again i get better feel and any slight movement is picked up, were as a flexi one i find really awkward. :wink:

Hook Pick

Becuase I started with Hook Pick And Still I can Feel Alot Better With Hook Pick.

Hello,

I have to go with hook and half diamond. Hook seems faster on many padlocks I own. and snowman on cabinet type wafer locks, but half diamond works well on those too. I broke my thin S snake months ago, I seem to remember that was good on Kwikset's and wafer desk locks, but I'm a brute :twisted:

so I broke it.

I enjoy using the rake more than any of them. I seem to have the best results with those.
