A very hard pick, must I say. They have countermillings (Chrispy thinks they are called "counterborings", but ASSA says otherwise  ) in the plug that lock into the special spool pins when tension is applied.

It was actually me that said they are counterbores, the proper engineering term for that set up is a counterbore, a counter milling is a name given to that lock feature by a pen pusher who didnt have a clue and thought it sounded good on the bumpf you get with the lock but im not being anal about it just informing.

Its a flat bottomed hole with a smaller hole continueing through the centre of that hole.

How should I approach this lock?

Well, from a security standpoint, it is a secure lock. Although, I'm not quite sure how the masterkeying would work (ie is it factory setup or what), it would probably only be used in extreme situations.
From a locksmiths standpoint, it would be a bugger to pick. I haven't gotten a chance to play around with one of these, but since it is similar to the Primus, then the difficulty is unreal. As I recall (I could be wrong here) didn't Scanlock make one similiar to the Scorpion??
As it turns out, there is only 1 way to do things...right, and fast.
