Repinnable practice locks?

Repinnable practice locks?

Postby Sennheiser » 5 Feb 2006 16:40

Hello!

Excuse my bad English.

Does anyone know about any webshop that sells repinnable practice locks? Or do you have to make your own?

If you have to make your own, would a Tri Circle-padlock be a good lock to make an practice lock out of? I want to improve my lockpicking skills by using the "add more pins as you gets better"-method, as I think that would make my learning a lot easier. Am I right?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your quick answer :)

Okey, I am planning to make an order from Lockpicks.com of a few things, but the only thing they seem to not have is repinnable locks. Or is there any repinnable locks on Lockpicks.com that I haven't found? If they don't sell repinnable locks, what other shop do you recommend that's serious and sells repinnable locks?

I have read your guide before, and I really liked it. But it feels unnecesery to make a own lock if there are already "finished" repinnable locks to buy out there.

Okey, thanks. However, in your guide, I understand most parts except the maybe most important part - how do you remove the top plate that is located on top of all pins from the lock? (As I told you, I am a Swede and doesn't speak English so good). Could you please tell me which tool to use and what to do with it, for removing that top plate?

Thanks in advance.

:) :D :) :D :)

if the lock has a top-plate (most don't) then just take a lockpick, or something else thin and slide the plate back... put your finger over it so the springs don't fly out.

In most locks you basicaly remove the rings which secure the plug in the housing(circlips) and then you put the key in the lock, turn it 30 degrees or so, and just pull the plug out - very simple :)

I don't know if top-plate was the right word, but you know, that plate which is located on top of the pins in padlocks. I guess it's called a top-plate?

Do you know about any guide (with pictues) that shows how this is done? I have never taked apart a lock before so I don't really know how to do it... But I guess you already figured that out :P

Ps. I have one of these locks http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7575 ... 0460zo.jpg

It costed me about $30 so I want to be sure I don't break anything.

A important question: What's easiest to repin? The lock I have (on the picture) or a padlock?

And what equipment do I need to repin that lock I have (on the picture)?

He has written a guide on repinning.
It can be found with the search function.
With a little bit of searching, you can look at a lot of pictures of him repinning a lock.

Okay the top plate in padlocks is mostly used on Tricircle padlocks, you will need tools to take it apart, the guide is here: viewtopic.php?t=10665
This is the harder one.

at the back of your lock you showed will be a clip which holds the plug into the lock - take this off. Put the key into the lock, turn it and pull it out.

If you don't believe me don't bloody try it, I'm really not going to try to convince you, and to be honest I don't care if you don't try - it's you who misses out if you don't believe me...

You will need a piece of wood to make a plug-follower, some tweezers, and the working key.

A padlock is MUCH more effort :)

Thanks! :) Hehe, you seem have written many guides. :D

I'm going to read that guide and I'll come back if it's something I don't understand.

However, I don't know if you have any experience of these DeJo-locks, but do you think this set http://www.lockpicks.com/index.asp?Page ... ProdID=312 will do?

I think I fully understand how to repin a lock, and yes it seems pretty easy. But - I can't figure out how to get the plug out of the lock, which seems to be a easy part only if I could figure out how to do it ;)

What I don't understand is - to be more accurate - how to remove the clip without damaging/destroying it. When I try I only end up bending the clip without any success, and I would prefer to be able to remove it without damaging it too much ;)

And yes, I have the key to the lock. And yes, I turn the key and open the lock before I try to remove the clip to be able to get the plug out from the housing.

Here's the back of my lock, if you think it will help you to explain for me how to remove the clip:

Just get some kinda metal slide in just inside of metal ring and it dont have to come of perect if its a bit bent dont worry but its best to get it out without wrecking it as much then put it back on. Or what you can do if it breaks use something like a wire and wrap it around the bit were the clip would be :D

And i looked at the post with the picture showing top 7 pins that would be hard if you were new to picking so i recommend you repin it and just start like on the guide

Try to hook your tension wrench behind the ring... seriously the most you will do is bend it, and it can be bent back... Hook it begind the ring and twist it, this will bend the ring and it will be easily removed.

Once it's off just put the key in and pull the plug out.
