National Padlock

Postby Rhaegal » 18 Feb 2006 13:04

I'm a newbie. I have a deadbolt cylinder that I can pick now in less than 10 seconds, so I bought an off-brand padlock. It's made by National: http://www.natman.com/prodinfo_item.asp ... talog=1472 and the 3rd or 4th pin seems less like a pin and more like an immovable object. I can't raise it even without tension. Does anyone know anything that could help?

Wierd...I've been holding it for a while, and I just noticed that I can see the holes for the pins through the side of the padlock...there are 6, even though the site says that it is a 5-pin tumbler. Hmmm it's not see-through, there are just little dark circles showing up on the side of the padlock...

you can see the holes i usually see like a differnt colour plate on side of padlock but if you see 6 holes the very back one is more likely to be the plugs spring this is why when you open it with the key the shackle jumps up.

Uhh... the very back one is more likely to be covering the pin which holds the plug in position when you unlock it with the key, rather than it just falling out. It usually mates with a circular groove at the back of the plug, which allows the plug to rotate but not fall out.

The last hole is the retaining pin.

Most padlocks and other tipes of locks have an imovable object in the back that is not the pin. It's only the 'shell wall' that separates the two sides of the lock. Are you positive that is the 3rd or 4th pin?

CPLP: That is probably what it is...the pins are smaller than the ones in my deadbolt cylinder, and I am probably over-extending.

If it is that, don't try to pull them down (or up, depending if you mount the lock with pins up or down), when I started lock picking I used to force some tools trying to pull those false pins...and almost ruined some tools.
