Well, remember, your goal is probably just to get the thing open. I'd change the lock after a glueing no matter how clean I thought I'd gotten it.

On a serious note, in my previous life within the grp boat building industry, Acetone was a definate Health and Safety issue. Because of its 'thinness' (which is why it dissolves) it gets absorbed thru the skin and can accumulate within the internal organs - Of course this is over a real long time and requires the user to regularly have been having direct skin contact with the stuff. The odd spill from the old lady's nail varnish (or your own.. ) wont be a problem.
