My first tension wrench

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

My first tension wrench

Postby weldman » 20 Feb 2006 14:20

Ok so I cant wait for my kit to get here so I started making a tension wrench out of old pad lock layers and an extra key.

I cut the key down the middle and made sure I left the little L part that grabbed in the core to turn it

I was going to weld the key on but the 2 metals were not the same so I just went and soldered it and its holding really strong so far

Here are some photos

Yea it does get it the way now a little but im still using paper clips as picks.

Look around for any used windsheild wiper blades at your local garage's, youll find a metal strip in the rubber that once pulled out is great for making tension wrenches out of.

Im sure if you check around at local service stations or autowreckers you can find plenty of wiper blades for free. They really do work well. Just pull the blade off and the two metal strips should just fall out.

I'll look into my garage where my dad keeps allot of old wiper blades...I'll just pull one out and try it out.

Do I have to harden the metal my heating then putting in water?

No, dont do anything to the material other than cutting it to length with either a pair of pliers or a junior hacksaw then just bend it to shape.

If you heat these for bending you will ruin them the same as you ruin hacksaw blades if they get hot.

I don't know if this has been mentioned already or not.......but have you thought of wiper blade inserts?

I can't see the wrench you made giving you much feedback. And what about trying it in other keyways on different locks!

But it obviously works for you so great stuff.
