That's just what I like to see, easy to make, cheapy alternatives!

So now I know how to make it, how is this particular version used? How is it to be inserted and what part of it actually pulls the key out?

Thanks.

Gently insert it below the key (where obviously, there is the most room), and try to catch the key on the saws bitting.

This way, the pins won't be damaged by the barbs as the smooth side is down, and it lets the key catch on the saw (with actually the pins slightly pressing the saw onto the broken key).

the saw functions the same as the fishing hook, but has more barbs.

it would look like this:

____________|\_|\_|\_|\_|\_|\_|\_|\
______________________________|

You might want to replace the saw once a while, as it is a bit thin (or try to insert two saws taped/glued together for strenght, haven't tried that yet).

Good luck on it, i hope this helped.

Yours,

Jordy

Extractors

The Petersen set works 100% for extraction - never had a broken key situation that one of the tools could not sort out.

For general and occasional use Spiral extractors cant be beaten unless you have a very close tollerance Restricted Profile Lock and cant get down the side of it - in that case use a saw tooth extractor thin enough to get over and lift the pins in font of the key blade, grab the blade and drag it forward.

Thanks Covlocks.

Which Peterson are you referring to? Is it on the following page? Are they available at a UK website?

http://www.peterson-international.com/extractors.htm

If I can make one as easily and cheaply as suggested by others, then I'm afraid that would be the best option for me at present. I wish to spend as little as I possibly can. If a bicycle spoke or windshield wiper blade can be sufficient for most things, then I'd be absolutely overjoyed! A Coping Saw blade has been suggested by others.

Thanks.

Extractors

The link you have is correct - if you were a real locksmith and I had a key broken in my car ignition and you started prodding it with a a bike spoke or a fishing hook you would be propelled back into your vehicle before you could blink.

To be professional you also have to look professional.

haaahaaaha; it's ok, 99.9% of the locks I will be picking will be in the privacy of my own bedroom. Maybe even 100% if none of my family and friends ever lock themselves out of their house or car!

This is also why I don't need to worry about quick methods of picking locks. Any cheap thing that works will suffice. I am, however, looking to buy a South Ord set to start off with.

Was just going to ask you if you could answer the question I asked in my last post, but then realised that I had actually missed out an important word; the question was supposed to be "Which Peterson 'SET' are you referring to?" and not "Which Peterson are you referring to?"

Thanks.
