Here is a step-by-step guide with pictures every step of the way.

This is a basic kwikset kik cylinder

Take off the clip holding all the stuff on the very back

Take off the clip that holds the actual cylinder into the rest of the core

Here is a breakdown of the parts so far and the order in which they go on the cylinder.

Now push the metal strip off just enough to be able to grip it with pliers.

Put the whole thing in a bag and remove the metal strip completely.

this is the order which the stuff goes back in. make sure you put the rounded pin in first.

put the bottom pin in.

Slide the clip partially on the cylinder

Note, I did it the long way to show some of the completely clueless people. You could save time by just taking the metal piece off the top, and loading the pins and springs in.

It does work just taking off the top metal piece. I have a 2x6 with 5 old deadbolts on it, all of which have a KIK cylinder inside. The only problem I found was that a couple of them ended up getting bent (metal pieces on top). This was not a problem for those within deadbolts (5 in deadbolts as mentioned, one out of deadbolt). But I had one which I recombinated with 6 pins because the cylinders had 6 holes, but only 5 pins, using pins & springs salvaged from the others. The problem was the metal ended up popping off, of course letting all the pins inside fly freely about my family room. I've electrical taped it (electrical tape is way nicer looking than duct tape), and that seems to have fixed the problem.

You may not realise but tinypic only hosts pictures for 30 days, after that time the links get reasigned and thus next month they may be all japenese cartoon charecters.
Photobucket is far better if you fancy swapping your pics over at some stage

Oh, duh. Well this took a long time, and how exactly do you transfer pictures over? Does that mean that i would have to do all the stuff over again? Is it worth it?

You might have to do it again, and i guess you're the one deciding wether it is worth it. If you want to contribute on the long run, then you should do it, i guess. It sounds like a good idea.

If you cant edit your post, youve got 28 (ish) days to sort some pics out on a differant host then simply pm a new post to a mod or Digital Blue and ask if he can simply swap it over for you,

As a side note, you must have the pics on your hard drive so just open a photobucket account and upload them to there, you shouldnt need to redo the pics unless you uploaded to tinypic from your camera direct.

Its all up to you, it seems to me that you wanted to provide this thread as an addition to Db's and wanted it to hang around for some time, if tats the case then yes its worth it.
