As I don't own an original pick,some of the measurments were taken from a tubular lock the other were scaled down from a picture,for I wanted to make it as close as possible to the SouthOrd's one(sinse it has such a sexy look:)Mostof them are not critical.The ones that actualy matter are the bore of the pick which is 7.8mm ,the OD is 9,5mm and the "cylinder"(pardon my terminology) which slides behind the pins and bottoms up with the end of the lock has 0.1mm wall thicknest.
I was wondering what kind of O ring does the commercial one has.The one I use is not so soft and I have to turn quite hard.Does someone have a picture
of the inside of the adjustable tension part of a SouthOrd's pick?

You may be useing your pick wrong, turning hard is not really part of the technique for using one of these, turn light, push in, then release the turning pressure and let the pin springs push the tool back, then put light turning on and push the tool in again. repeat until it either opens or has gone past the key depths, (for practice, its nice to have the key to compare the tool to til you get the technique down.)

would you consider homemade if you just used the pieces of your old pick to make it, sorry, I dont have any spare or broken $150.00 picks lying around.

i'm using various small size PVC piping for the body (it's sturdy, cheap, comes in a variety of sizes, drillable w/o a machine shop and you can mold it to almost shape you need.) also PVC can be threaded relatively easy anywhere on the pipe you deem fit. for the feelers, right now i'm experimenting with bicycle spokes that i found in my parents garage (hey, my brother's 17 he doesn't ride it anymore), i held then to a tubular lock and they seem to fit. i don't have a digital camera yet, so no pictures yet, sorry. but i hope that this will provide some of you with an idea where to get parts. and i'm open to all feed back, so if any of you have any ideas, please, hit me up.

Is that the type of lock on a pop machine?

I got a pop machine last summer and I lost the key so I can't use it. Would that work to unlock it?

the search button up top for starters...after that a few months of study, many sleepless nights of research and developement and then you MIGHT have a usable pick. or if you can afford the $80+ you can purchase a pick from several sites throughout the vast world wide web, i could give you a link or 12 to find them, but then you would miss out on the wealth of knowledge gained from using the search feature.
