Extra Holes in Kwikset Core

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Extra Holes in Kwikset Core

Postby GWLXIJ » 6 Mar 2006 20:48

I just started picking recently, and bought a Kwikset lock to learn on. When I took it apart, I noticed that the core has a set of holes next to the main holes for the pins. These extra holes do not go all the way through, and they are not big enough for a pin to fit in. I was just wondering if anyone knows why they might be there.

Thanks

also, the kwikset has become too easy to pick. what would be a slightly harder lock for a beginner? or could i just repin it with spools or something?

Yes you can to learn security pins, but you'd be better off buying a better cylinder of higher quality....

kwiksets are really really easy... you push up until you hear a load click and repeat.

Getting yourself a nice mortise schlage from Varjael with the re-pinning kit and then work with that up until you are doing full serrated/spooled 6 pin picks.

IT might sound like a plug (heh) but it is definately worth it to get a cylinder with rekeying kit. You will be able to really expand your picking quickly. And you will learn all about rekeying locks.
