homemade computer picks

Postby scampdog » 14 Mar 2006 20:58

this is in response to a request by pickmaker about my homemade computer picks.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e157/ ... rpicks.jpg
the picks are made from0.60mm feeler guages (for uk guys they are available from Warehouse Direct tel-0845 600 2601,for only 1£ a set 1mm to 0.05mm,they also do cheap hacksaw blades as well, ask for a brochure). The templates for the picks, were obtained by combining various pictures on the net,and enlarging them in stages untill i reached what i thought was about right(taking account of pin spacings). Due to the curved shape, the majority of the work was carried out on my bench grinder, and fine tuning with the good old dremel. They were then polished using different grades of wet and dry paper, they were then finally given a high polished finish with dura glit cloth. i also made a hook, diamond, rake and king and queen picks. it's a handy keychain item.Be glad to answer any queeries if you want.

i've tried them on all sorts of pin tumbler locks(US as well) they seem to work just as well on either.

Nice effort. I would like to use the template but try saving at a higher resolution - at least 72. Thanks.

There are actually a lot better pics on this site if you search for them, the pics are more than adequate to make a set from and they also have a ruler next to them.

Search is your freind

i just bought these

http://www.lockpicks.com/index.asp?Page ... &ProdID=32

and they work pretty good,

there are 8 double sided tools, but really there are like 32 tools becuse they are all double sided and you can try them 2 different ways

they are pretty fun, it is kinda like trying a bunch of different keys in a door, but once you find the right one it is just like a key.

i've got a set of these, but i can't get on with them at all. I was on my way home at 6.30 this morning, when i got a shout off a bloke who'd locked his keys(car keys also) indoors.Didn't have my tools with me just my homemade set,got in with the second pick, and was in my house about 7.45am,who needs bought picks? God i love this job.

personally i think every1 should get a feeler gauge set... they have soo many uses. With the thicker ones make picks and with the thin ones they work great for lock shims (when repinning not to be confused with padlock shims)

I got one in a fold out set up and i was thinking of making a jack knife set but iam having truble finding a way to lock the pick in place Image this is how mine looks like any ideas how to keep one in place?

Cheers
