Teaboy

Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

Teaboy

Postby zafox » 19 Mar 2006 8:04

Hi all,
Im about to leave the Armed Forces and am considering locksmithing as a career move. Just wondered if any one wanted a teaboy for a couple of days. I would really like to see what is involved day to day in this profession before i fork out huge wads of cash on tools/training. Im free any time as long as i get a couple of days notice to put in leave.
I make a fine cup of tea too.

Thanks Zafox

Track down an Ex-serviceman that has undergone the training advertised in the Quest, Pathfinder etc. If they are still trading after the first six months they are doing good. If any qualifications are part of the course check with the relevent body just in-case the qual is made up

It is easy to take money off a Novice during a short course and you won't even realise you have been ripped off until you have been trading a couple of months.

Always ask the trainer if you can bring a few locks along for him to open non destructively if he stalls you will know how good he is.

thanks 79commando,
I have allready checked out the training companies in the mentioned publications and that is what led me here. Of the two that advertised one was offering a C&G and earnings of £1000+ per week (i wish) and the other didnt offer any back-up or hands on with BS locks.
Obviously both were discounted. I am very keen on this profession but feel I need to find out more before fully commiting myself. Thanks all for the advice.
