holy moly.. 14 pick set..now.. what does what?

hmm.. got a new set (professional, tired of using a paperclip, though it was indeed manly) i got the southord 14 piece set, and let me tell you.

I know what the two hook picks are for, and what the rake pick is for.

I have another pick that looks like a serrated knife edge,
another that looks like a rake but is jagged and really sharp
diamonds, half diamond, don't know what they .. except act like a hook?
ball, half ball.

the super-serrated is fourth from the right.. key estractor? but i thought that was the one that was shaped like an arror (it curves back to snag the key)

the other one (i think maybe its an auto-jiggler?) is the very last one.. its like a rake but jagged.

Just thought i'd ask here before trying to pick and lock and unknowningly sever my juggular vein.

There is a good thread on what various picks are called and used for but briefly,

from left to right,

Snake rake, you cna manipulate the pins as a mix of single pin and rakeing technique,

Half dimoun pick, single picking tool but can be used to rip a lock or gentally rake,

Ball pick, very good on wafer locks infact destroys the simple ones,

Rake, a good raking will open all simple locks and with care get you over some security pins,

Hook pick, this is what you do your singlke pin picking with,

From what i can make out the others are just a differant sized varient o the previous ones,

The last one is a double ended one and then you have your wrenches, i dont know why you dont get the double pronged wrench in the cheaper sets as its quite good actually but thats that.

i looked there.. but.. i still don't know what the jagged snake is for, auto maybe? its pointed on both sides sharply, like a small double-sided rake.

the rake is crazy.. i feel, almost dirty using it

not even a second most of the time, but where's the fun in that?

The jagged snake is just a rake, youll find its a little like the bogota style, theres no specific auto picks in that set and theres certainly no auto tension wrench.

Appeart from the ball pick they are all suited to pin tumbler locks.

Also, I figure this is as good a time as any to tell you something I find rather amusing.

After reading your thread on your unsuccesful attempts with a pick gun, and then finally managing to get your first lock open. I was then looking at the gun offered by LockPickShop.com and there and behold was something interesting in the review section.

After 5 frustrating days of not being able to open ANYTHING, my friend borrowed it for one night and was able to use it perfectly. He had pumped up the tension wheel quite a bit! Make sure your tension wheel is high enough and simply "bounce" your tension wrench and locks will fall open. I'm getting a 14 kit set to practice manual skill, but this thing is EXCELLENT for padlocks, and doors.

I cant and wont tell you again, this is the last time, you have no auto picks in that set!!

The bogota style one is for rakeing normal locks the only tool you should use on wafers in that set for raking is the ball pick but the hook or even the dimound one can single pick wafers if you get the right feel.

You do not have an auto wrench in the set either.

Now give the auto thoughts a rest, you wont get any advoice on how to pick them and then if you have a go and damage the lock (quite easy if you dont know what your doing) you also wont get any advice on how to repair it on here.

If your quoted from this site on a sellers site did you get asked if they could use your quote? if not its in breach of 101's copyright notice as in all posts are 101's property from when you post them and the correct permission should have been obtained.
If you posted it on there then thats fine and if they did it on there before you posted on here then thats fine as well otherwise its copying or stuff from site and thats wrong.

He is either talking about the snake rake, or the saw-tooth rake...

The saw-tooth rake can be used to rock, and also jiggle inside the lock woth varying degrees of sucess. Yet risks damaging the wafers, since they are of soft metal to the point of stopping the correct key working.

The snake rake is very effective, and with differing movements will work well.

As said don't stick any pick except a ball pick into a wafer lock. :wink:

success! i had opened my 50mm piece of crap padlock a million times..

and i had success on my back door twice! then couldn't open it for 10 minutes

my teacher locked her filingcabinet (maybe on purpose.. lockpicking is my new honors physics final project) and i tried a rake.. and then i used a half-diamond. POW

open in about 5 seconds.

No, I don't believe that's what happened, sorry for the misunderstanding. Demonithese had talked about his pick gun in a thread, and at another time, I saw a review that metioned some of the same stuff. I was just pointing out that I was able to figure out that that review was his.

Hmm..Honors Physics Final Project? I smell something more than a bit off here. Never heard of a physics project like that, and I know many honors Physics majors, and they have alot more to do that break into a teachers filing cabinet.
