Good locks to buy at Walmart

Postby Jason13 » 24 Mar 2006 10:56

Hey im going to L.A and Las vegas next sunday and im not going there to go to hardware shops etc...

Since i go to walmart to get my shopping for the room im staying in its the only place im going to.

I heard the Brinks Discus is $9 but heavy spring is supose to be hard.

Master Padlock 140 is supose to be easy

But is there any other locks in Walmart that are not as hard as Brinks?

Im getting it if its like $8-$9 Since over here its £14 for the Abus discus.

Thx for any help in advance

The Wal-mart down the road from me Sells Kwickset, Black and Decker, Mountain Security, Brinks, and Master Locks.

The only locks I have gotten from there are a Kwickset, a couple of master locks that were cheap and very easy to pick.

I also have a brass bodied Brinks with 5 pins. 4 of which are spools. It cost $4.50 I think. Pretty easy to pick though.

The Brinks shrouded padlock (square one not discus) is also a good buy at just over $10. It is still a pain for me to pick this one. I get mad and have to set it down everyonce in a while.

I have not tried the Black and Decker locks or the Mountain Security so can't give any info on them.

Hope this helps a little.

I would suggest finding an American brand lock if you can. Full of security pins, and often tight keyways.

Look at what Walmart also offers:

I have never seen those books at either of the two Walmarts by which I live. I think they might only be available online. I own the second one and was able to get it at Barnes and Noble.

This is the second time you've been to the west coast in about three months Jason. That's a long way from the UK. Just what are you up to?

Wal-Mart sells lots of Master and Kwickset. Buy a kwickset "high security" lock then amaze yourself again and again by rapidly picking it. Honestly, thier lock selection is pretty ominicky.

Actually SFGOON, Walmart doesn't sell any Kwikset at all. They have Brinks and Mountain Security knobs and deadbolts. But I cans can see the confusion with all these low-quality locks.

Haha, when I was flying back up north from Florida about a month ago... I downloaded and saved a lot of the stickied guides on this site along with the tutorials via the airports wifi so I could have something to read on the plane. Don't worry, I removed them off the computer after I got back, I'm not violating copyright, I think...

At Jason13,

I don't mean this to sound rude, but, judging from some of your, erm, extensive posts, I don't think you may have an excellent amount of skill at lockpicking as of yet. I may be wrong, and I probably am, but you seem to have asked for help on some fairly easy locks. And let me tell you, the Masterlock 140 is definently not the worlds easiest lock to open.
Sure, it only has 4 pins, but sometimes up to three of those are spools. I have two 140's each with a different but challanging pin combination and they used to give me alot of trouble. I have them each down to about 6 seconds single picking, no crazy raking or jiggling etc. I know many will say this is muscle memory, but I have found these locks to greatly help me distinguish binding pins when I first aquired them.
if you get anything out of this, just reconsider this lock as a fair adversary . And if you do but it, make sure to look for a difficult looking key first.

Sorry if this came off harsh,

I think someone mentioned doing this before somewhere... I believe the consensus was as long as it was for personal use and not to be distributed no problem. If I'm wrong I am sure guidemakers will let me know
