They will last for years if you dont break them

European picks are thinner because we have tighter keyways.

Hey 7-up,

European picks can indeed open American locks, but many users on this site suggest standard picks if you are new to lockpicking because of the tendency of the Slim Line picks to require a more delicate touch and are additionally prone to bending and breaking.

Might I also suggest that you consider getting a similar set to the one you posted, except from http://www.lockpickshop.com/, which, if you use the code 'lp101' on the order form, you will recieve a 10% discount. Also, you may be better off with metal handles, I personally feel that the picks with no handles can become exceptionally uncomfortable and can actually hurt your hands after an extended period of picking. You would most likely be happier with a set such as the Slim Line 15 Piece or the Slim Line 9 Piece if you are on a tighter budget.

I wish you the best of luck with your picking and I hope you found this post helpful. Please ask any questions if you are still confused.

Cheers,

The best possible place to get a good assortment of pick is at the southord main site get the blemished picks they call them.. there the same pick far far cheaper just a little dull, you can get a 30 sum piece set or so for like 42 dollars its a deal especially if your starting.

Wise choice man, it has all the issential picks plus a nice amount of tension wrenches, that should be and excellent start set.

Although that is a good set, I would still suggest you get a European pick set if your interest is to open European locks. You will find that standard picks will be too large for most Euro cylinders, and the ones they do fit will be a very tight squeeze.

But in the end, the choice is up to you, It all depends on what kind of locks you want to be opening. European? Definetly slimlines. American? Either one, but standards would better as they are more durable.

Also, might I make one more suggestion? I think you may be happier with an American set, because it is cheaper and more durable, and buying several European picks individually for those tighter locks. That's actually what I just did and I think it will work really well. Can't wait till they come in! :P

I really hope this helps.
(And yes, the 'lp101' is for real and it usually covers the cost of shipping and a little more)
