Dead Battery,

Postby BlackTowel » 2 Apr 2006 10:15

Hi guys, i'm new here and I got a question.
A family member has got a digital vault but the battery's are dead.
There's a little plastic cover on the front and when I open it there's a round thing which I can turn arount. Because I aint got the manual I dont know what to do to open the lock. By the way I got the combination. Does anybody know how to open the vault so I can change the battery's. I dont know what brand vault it is only that its made in England.

Pick em

Plastic? Sounds like a fire safe. Just take it up to the roof-top and drop it to the ground and that should open it.
It is far better to remain silent and be thought of as stupid, rather than opening your mouth and removing all possible doubt.

If that's something that closes the battery lid, you might want to try a little bit if you find a way to turn it (or whatever movement is required)

If that round thing is silver-colored and looks like it accepts a round key, use the search function for "tubular" locks.

If it's a round hole, and you see a + shaped keyway behind it, search for "cruciform" locks.

Or just post a picture.

(And don't expect help here about how to open a high security vault)

There is very little security in the cheap ones around but a pic would help and then tell us where in the world you are, if for example you were near me i would open it for you.

Most electronic safes have contactpoints on the outside to witch you can push a new battery to open the safe with the original code.
If not, it's not a safe but a reinforced soupcan witch you can open with anything from a screwdriver and up.

Brinks by some chance? My "digital" lock box was the first lock I picked, using a screwdriver or torque and a piece of brass hobby wire.
