nice pics there just one question
after you cut the slots and sanded them did you have any problems with the driver pin holes?

No, I havn't any problems after cut the slots, but it's very import to burr the eges of the slots. Before assembly and repining give a little bit oil in the lock.

Make sure the grooves you cut are SMALLER thaqn the pin holes - even a tiny bit smaller is okay. If you do the holes the same size or bigger than the chambers, expect the pins and springs to fly out when assembled.

Nice work

Very nice!

I wonder though: Does the lock "feel" differently now when picked in one or the other direction?
(Because some of the material has been removed where the binding pins would normally apply force.)

Did you notice any difference?

Thanks,
mh

I don't feel a difference between the picking direction.
The picking diretion is no matter but I find it 's simpler to get the pins in the correct position by a training lock as an orginal lock.
I prefer to make the slot so shmall as possible.
I use a normaly hacksaw to cut the slots.

I don't know which other locks you use to pick, but the one you took pictures from seems to be a rather cheap one, and the pin lengths are all nearly the same, so I guess that one's indeed simpler.

But it's good to know that when you use small slots, no big difference is felt when picking.
That encourages me to try that type of cutaway, too :)

Yes, that right the lengths of pins are nearly same.
I need this training lock to show some people without lockpicking experience how you can bump locks. It is easier to bump a lock for newbies if the level of pins nearly the same.

I picking normaly original locks and just unfrequent traininglocks.

Mh do you a member of the SSDeV in germany?

No, I'm not member of SSD too. The next sportgroup for me is in Hamburg, and this is 100 km far away.

Here is a link to the very best german forum

In which direction? If it's to the south you are pretty close to the danish border, eh? Spent my military draft time there, next to the Schlei...

Maybe you should hook up with the SSD anyways, they might know some other isolated people in your area so you can create your own group.

I am not a member as well, but playing with the thought of at least popping in for one of their meetings in Hamburg, should time allow...

I live in south direction of Hamburg. I'm living in Bremen.
I'm interested on workshops from SSD, but to attend workshops you must be member. Sometimes I think about joining to SSD.
