Schlage Deadbolts and picks

Postby h3x1lu2 » 4 Apr 2006 22:10

So I'm working on getting past a Schlage dead bolt; basic SC1 key way...nothing really out of the ordinary, so I'm wondering what type of pick should I try...or rather, what set of picks should I try? diamond rake, hook, snake rake, etc. Thanks :)

agreed! definately try the hook. you may want to place your tension wrench at the top of the keyway as well. leaves a bit more room to work on those locks.

It depends on what you have and your preference. If you have a good range, try them all and see what works best for you and your picking style.

I prefer a hook primarily, but i sometimes use combinations, i.e. hook, then large rake, and try to gently push the unset pins to the shear line.

I'll try the hook, but I think the one I'm using is a bit too large, because I can never get it all the way in the back of the lock and it always gets caught on the pins...but maybe there is a flaw in my use of the pick...is there a better angle to enter the lock with a hook pick?

The best angle to enter the lock with the hook pick is the angle at which you have 1. best access to manipulate the pins 2. the least amount of contact of the pick shaft to the pins if any contact at all.

my hook

Postby h3x1lu2 » 5 Apr 2006 21:47

now maybe my hook is causing a problem...because, like I said before, it can't go all the way in the lock (at any angle) with out running into a pin...i think it is a bit large...so, would a smaller hook help me in any way?

It probably would as long as there isnt a really high pin in front of a low pin. A more curved hook would probably help also.

I'm not really at the level to try the Schlage on my front door. Mainly because they arent very "Beginner friendly." I did open it once though.
