Ridiculous Master Padlock

Ok, so I am not entirley new to this picking business. Today I am dealing with one lock I bought just for some quick practice. Ive gotten open any master lock padlock I have found, including this one. However, I have only gotten it open once, the rest of the tries only get it...half open...the plug spins about...30 degrees...the lock opens at 45-ish and the key still works...so I don't think I've broken anything. I'm using a basic, every-day snake rake on it. Here is a picture:

Sounds like you're catching a security spin. There is plenty of info on the forum on how to pick security pins (probably a spool in your case), a quick search should find many valid posts.

The lock you have appears to be the plastic coated version of the now famous #140 lock. A search for Master 140 will be of help. Yes you are indeed catching a spool pin or two.

Ugg i hate those locks mine jammed on the first try, so i took it apart, havent bought one since, i wasnt even hard on it ehh well

I have this same lock. I start with the first pin, work to the back and then work back to the front and it feels like all the pins are set. I then have to go to the third pin and release a slight bit of tension and raise it slightly and it pops open. Yours could have a security pin in a different position than mine.

Okay want to open it in no time. Take a snake rake and rake till false set. Then just go back with a hook and losen tension and push up the security pins and bang... do this for about 5 times and you own the lock. This works just about every lock i have used with security pins.

I'm new to lockpicking and just bought a master 140 from wal-mart because it was the cheapest one they had in stock. It turns out I'm hooped when it comes to opening, it but my partner, who has basically no picking experience except for me telling her about it, can bust the 140 open in under 30 seconds by scrubbing with a half diamond. The thing is she can do this consecutively, and I can't even come close to this lock. no question here, just thought I'd contribute to the literature

Yea, females are like that

For some reason they tend to be better at lock picking, but usually loose interest pretty quickly. My 15-year-old daughter did the same thing to me when I first started and no longer has any interest in it.

I think it's because they have a lighter touch where we tend to over do it with the tension.

I think there are secret training camps where they learn how to do it, then they go and show off to us while claiming to have no idea what lockpicking is, just to give us a notion of how useless and clumsy all the males are. It is all part of the big conspiracy...

The hardest part about doing the 'soft' martial arts is learning how to use only as much power is needed. I had endless enjoyment watching 3 macho guys fighting this one lady in an Aikido lesson. They all strutted up and started flexing their muscles, then they began throwing punches (boxing gloves) and the lady just made minimal movements and had them all down on the ground within a minute.

The moral?

Only use as much force as is needed - only use as much tension as is needed, no more. Any excess power is simply waste and is counter-productive.

Perhaps over-doing things is a male characteristic?

Hmmm I had a huge thread that dealt with this subject on how the opposite sex tends to be good at lockpicking for no apparent reason, come to think of it i seen the thread and it was locked!! MODS!!!

i wonder why it was locked? Any way the master lock is easy to open, i am not boasting here just simply rake it open once or twice to get you confidence up..thats what i did, then begin to practice to sinlgle pin pick, you should get it soon enough good luck there buddy

I want to see an archive of individual first-hand accounts of females besting guys at lockpicking. There must be at least 5 such accounts on this site. Someone please get these girls into the sport so we can start a women's league!
