hoemade spnap guns have searched but need help

hello
i want to make a snap gun but all i have found is this viewtopic.php?t=10642&highlight=making+pick+gun
but its only a picture and doesny have any instructions about size where to bend and how thin the pick needs to be please help and should the end be any perticuler shape

Well its only a toy really and isnt great on many locks but with time and effort you can produce reasonable results i would imagine.

The end must be of adequate dimensions so it fits into the lock and the rest needs to be big enough to be comfortable to use but not oversized.

Follow the bends and you wont be far wrong you are looking at somthing that will fit into a 6 inch sqaure box or thereabouts.

There are many more threads on this and i can think of a particular one that did have sizes and a guid on making one, ill go and have a lok for you now but if i dont post it up you need to search the manual pickgun threads along with homemade pickgun threads

thanks i have made it i just need to flatten out the end and should i add something like a diamond or make it a rake and how does it actually work

Leave the tip straight to begin with.

Have you read the mit guide? if not have a look for that then read up on the bumping threads on here, they both work on the same princible and thats newtons law that every action has an opposing reaction, in a lock with a pick gun being used this is as simple as hit the bottom pins and the top pins jump up to the shear line.

The snap pick is an effective tool on most north american cylinders, if used correctly and if they are comfortable in your hand. It is the main tool I use, I like the abiltiy to adjust the striking force from strike to strike.
The only advice I have for the making of a snap pick is to make sure it is shaped to fit your hand, adjust the basic template. Shape a copper wire, its easier to reshape, and then use that as your template

Here is one i made a while back ago. Pretty exciting what you can do with a coat hanger. Didn't give me too much of a thrill, because usually 5-pin tumbler's don't give me a problem. At least ones people commonly put on their houses. It is just the plain snapper design.




I need to get a new couch.

Some tips really quick.

1. Try snapping with little force, then move up in strength of hit
2. Try with little tension at first, then move up in tension strength
3. Try about 1 to 10 times before reseting the pins again.
4. Try bouncing the tension. This has never worked for me, but it might for others.
