This is purely buy your skill level and personal belief, so if its a master cool if its a medeco cool but post you hardest lock to date that you picked based on your skill level.

Mine is the abus discus and the brinks shrouded 6 pin Padlock.

Well, having only been in the hobby for one week, I'm quite low on the lock difficulty scale.

I bought a Fortress 40mm, which uses the Master 140 plug. I thought that it would be easy, since it was only $4. But after reading the posts on this site, I discovered that it has spool pins. After a little playing, I can open it with a half-diamond or snake.

I'm currently playing with a Schlage, which I can open with 4 pins, but not yet 5.

I'm still in the crawling before walking stage, but enjoying the challenge.

Hardest locks that i have picked so far:

Abloy classic (with false gates)

Abloy exec (don't bother, without a machine made, precise pick)

Abloy protec (actually, come to think of it, some of the padlocks are fairly easy when masterkeyed)

Medeco biaxial 51s and 32s.

Corbin Emhart.

The collection of chubb/era/whatever else lever locks give me some hassle.

Lockwood Twin.

Well, I'm fairly new to this too, as I've only been picking locks for about a month. I'm getting ready to enroll in Foley Belsaw, probably within a month.

So far, the hardest lock I've picked is a Best padlock that was made for the US Military. The lock was originally in use at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane Indiana.

I have a similar lock made by Reese that also was used at that location. I still have not been able to open it yet. The keyway on the Reese is very small with several wards, very hard to get a pick in, and the pin configuration is, from back to front, high, low, low, low, high. I will keep working on it and making picks until I get it open. It is going to take a very thin hook pick with a fairly large hook.

Have any of you ever heard of a padlock brand called WB? I have several of these. General Motors Corp. uses this brand of padlocks in their production facilities. I've found that this company usually uses High/Low pin configurations making some of their locks tough to pick.

Postby scampdog » 10 Apr 2006 21:00

worst one i've come across was a union 2234 5 lever sashlock, took me ages to get past the anti pick notches, and the lock itself was in the most awkward place to get at.
