Having trouble finding a specific lock

My landlord just asked me if I could change out the laundry room door lock. The state inspectors stated it must have a handy cap handle knob, which is easy enough, but I need to match 2 other criteria aswell.

The doors have a rectangular plate installed which covers the key-in-knob and a deadbolt. The new lock must be able to use the existing brass plate or come with its own. The new handle also must not be lockable without a key, so that kids cannot lock themselves inside the laundry room. So a deadbolt and a non-locking handle, or a deadbolt and outside key-locking handle but without a thumb lock would be desired. I can't seem to find either of these.

And Kwikset would be quite fine, as all of our existing locks are Kwiksets.

Could you provide a quick picture?

Is your brass plate a door wrap? or is it purely decorative?

What is the backset on the lock?

I'm having doubts that the brass plate can be re-used, however, every door in the complex has the same brass plate, so it would be cool if it could be kept.

Again, this is a Kwikset. Notice the locks have been disabled to prevent kids from locking themselves inside. Any lock must be key-only, no thumb turn. The handle-knob doesn't necessarily require a lock.

Something appears to be wrong with that link. All I see are "Locks by Schlage" but no locks. Any Kwiksets?

Would it be possible to find a handle I could simply replace the knob with? That would be the simplest and most accepted solution for the landlord.

Go to www.chown.com
Click on the ADA tab
Then on the left column click on lock, retrofit levers.

You should try to find a similar product that fits.


Why do you keep assuming the locks are Kwikset simply because they have a KW1 keyway? The plate says Arrow, so I would suggest its an Arrow. Try dissassembing to see what kind of install it is. Again, take pictures and some basic lock measurements.
