Are there official measurements for key depth?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Are there official measurements for key depth?

When i was messing around with keys I was sort of eyeballing the depth but it would be useful to know what the exact measurments were. Does a depth of 4 mean 4 millimeters in depth? Just wondering.

Wow, thats really complete thanks! What are the units of measurment they are using? It doesnt look metric. Also what exacally does root depth mean. Im guessing the depth the notches are cut to but i could be wrong? Sorry about all the questions but I just want to be clear.

The measures are in standard. Root depth is the depth between the bottom of the key and the cut in the key

You know that stupid measuring system we Americans tend to use.
