I kind of admire this lady's tenacity!!!

Just come back from a call. This charming American lady had locked herself out on a yale at 1am this morning. Armed only with a basic (blunt) dinner knife and the handle from a letter opener to use as a hammer she proceeded to spend the next 4 1/2 hours trying to get in. I think a combination of tiredness and no fingernails left made her give in and call a locksmith.

I admire hugely her persistence in the face of adversity but I tell you this. I wouldn't want to piss her off - I kept getting visions of Glenn Close 'Fatal Attraction' pop in to my head.

That is hilarious. Installation doesnt look so great so a few good kicks would have likely made short work of it though.

She had 4" high heels on - not ideal for kicking doors in I suppose.

At 1am she actually woke her neighbours up to ask them for a hammer. They refused to help her!

Nice....

I'm amazed she was able to hack away at her door for that length of time, and not be approached by anybody. The joy of innocent ignorance on my behalf perhaps?

Perhaps, but I'll warrant they could do some serious damage were she to target you. :?

Uh, Im stunned.

she almost had it, but from some of the marks that seem wide of the target, I think there was a great deal of frustration and emotion involved. I think she was a beaver in another incarnation. :P

There are actually marks on the door frame all the way up and down where she tried to prise it open with her knife. The door was actually a good tight fit as it happens.

She also mashed up the cylinder a bit and it took me a good half an hour to pick it......

I honestly don't believe I've ever seen anything like that accomplished with a dinner knife before! I bet her hands were nearly worn to the point of bleeding.

Am I looknig at that picture right?

It appears that she nearly had the lock carved out of the solid wood door?

How was there any strength left in that to keep it from just being kicked open from that point?

That is just amazing and makes me look forward to getting into the business!

There needs to be a thread about funny and horror stories people have run into in the business so us wannabe's will have an idea of what we could get into!

Good old American Gumption. What was stopping her from retracting the bolt at that point?

I would guess drink and the fact that it was probably deadlocked.

Im struggleing to beleive this as where would she get the knife from and how did it stand upo to that abuse,

Shes obviously a bit of a mad old girl and im guessing a heavy set one at that.

it is certainly true - the knife was a mangled mess after her efforts. All she needed was a screwdriver as I simply inserted my flat blade into the lock (where the cylinder flat connecting bar goes into) and turned. She didnt have this (or indeed realised what was needed), nor anything quite long enough to bash the lock off with.

Heavy set she wasnt, slender frame - in fact she was so gorgeous that I think I am love!!! Her partner (who didn't live local) is putting a new door on tomorrow and I am returning to fit a deadlock. Strangly, she has gone off Yale locks for some reason.
