GrEmLiN, sorry about our young friend.

Pickguns do the same job as a normal pick however the mechanics does all the work of lifting the pins and all you have to do is turn the torque wrench. The way the pickgun lifts the pins is slightly different it is more like inertia how the gun slaps the bottom pin which makes the top pins jump up (while keeping the bottom pin in place). Also all the pins move at once using a pickgun when normally a normal pick will move one pin at a time.

They have their place and some people prefer these when they are locksmiths and need to open doors in a timely fashion. They have their limitation on harder locks (or even stuborn ones).

Yes I know luke the whole pickgun hater etc..

The way the needle is turned?
I take it you pick US locks with the pins in the top of the lock?
Is this the way the needle should be turned?
I've just seen alot of extra special needles with the diamonds and rake and snowmen on the DOWN side of the needle.. Like they where made to strike pins in the buttom.. But this can't be.. as the pins are (in almost every US, and for me Danish lock) placed in the top of the lock.
Can you turn the pin if you want to?
Please help here..

Okay I can see that my last reply is quite confusing - but I really want an answer. On the german multipick site there are pictures of a lot of extra gun needles. . But they are turned - so that the rake, snowman or just plain side is on the DOWN side of the pick.. And just like the one on this pick - I know the needle strikes the pins in the top of the lock - but this is odd.. I made some crappy pics

Plaine needle Pins Pins Pins

Needle with rake Pins Pins Pins
----------------- Inserted into normal lock: ----------------

If you insert a needle like this into a lock the rake(or plaine side) points down - is that right? - do you turn the pick? Or are we back to my old question about if the pickguns are designed to pick locks with pins in the top or buttom?

Sorry if this question seems odd - I'm a beginner and I want to understand everything..

Thanks

I could not understand your question but i would suggest you get a normal pick and work out how a lock works before you go to a pickgun. Go to http://www.howstuffworks.com and go to the lockpicking section and see how the locks function. Also take a lock apart. When you understand this you should be able to work out the shear line is there regardless if the lock is mounted with the pins at the top or bottom.

YES, a pickgun may work on your locks. No there is not a special pickgun for Danish locks. Some pickguns only come with one tip so I do not see tips making much difference.

Those other tips are for the Multipick system I beleive. Putting them in your snap gun probably will impede picking more than being useful.

yeh, i also have a similar question. What the hel are these strange tips? i thought the whole process of pick guns was to stay still, then strike the pins up, not raking or whatever, but some of the heads clearly seem to be meant to be used this way.

I would make a fairly strong guess that these are just gimmicks to make companies more money, or am i wrong, do they actually have real purposes?

technik has my question - you see how the rake on the middle pick is on the down side? How the hell are those supposed to hit the pins? They are placed OVER the needle - on the plaine side..

I ordered a gun and I'm thinking to buy some extra needles - shuold i skip these specials and just buy a load of plain ones - or can they be used?

Thanks

Are you sure these tips are for a pickgun? I have looked around and normally you get replacement tips for a pen pick or a jack knife. I do not see how these could make any difference (perhaps make it worst) when using a pickgun. Pickguns normally have a straight and an angled pick.

Can someone else please correct me, as I hate pickguns and I could be totally off the mark.
