Hard to pick lock

there is this model of the masterlock, it has a vinyle covering around it so it comes in colors and is relivialy small, but not like a suitcase lock small bigger then that. ill looking for a picture. well anyone I have the key to it but I can not pick it. Iv tried on another lock idenitcle to it (exept how the pins where of course, but some model) and had no luck either. anyone know a tip to help me? I pretty new to lock picking although I can get into a lock such as masterlock their average size in first or second try but this I cannot. If i figured out how to pick this one, then It would be the smallest iv done.

Also, how about some measurements. Relative measurements that dont mention a specific lock are fairly worthless.

ah... i have a green one of those, it's at my friends house in my electrical kit though. i left it over there like a year ago and just go over there whenever i need something... heh...

anyways, i'm working on a similar type lock only bigger, i can get it sometimes in 5 seconds, and other times i can work on it for a loong long time and get nowhere. can be frustrating

The solid brass Master padlocks may have security pins. But, the smaller ones suffer from the same design flaw as most cheap "40mm" padlocks, and can be bypassed quite easily with a half diamond pick.

does this seem harder to pick? I thought I have picked a 40mm before but this one puzzles me and cant seem to get it. hey bushd how long did it take you before you picked it? first try that is.

My comment on 40mm lock wasnt about picking perse, but rather a very well known bypass method. Ive picked this lock in the past, but I can't remember if theres any security pins or not. It was one of those "I bet you cant pick this" situations.

well im new with lock picking terms so a safty pin is basically one that is made diffrently? it is wider or is an odd-pin so its harder to open? The pick im using barly fit into it so im going to make another a bit thinner and use that for my thin locks. Ill update you if i succeed or not.

looks like No. 140 to me except they got colorful vinyl covers .

if they r the same as No. 140, then they have 2 or 3 mushroom pins.

It does seem that way, because mine I believe just has the vinyl cover, and part of the brass is exposed at the top. Looks like this one is the same, with some color to add style I suppose.

Either I didn't have a pin set right, or it does have a spool/mushroom in it. Just got my picks in the mail, been playing with it for the past 10 minutes.
