picks in canada?

Hello all,

I am wondering where you can get lockpicks in canada without a special licence. I have already checked in all the fleamarkets in Toronto and can't seem to find a place to get them. Any help would be appreciated.

remember, I am only 17. My parents won't buy it for me and I don't know anyone that would. My parents would allow me to have it but they say I have to buy it myself.

Making picks is always a lot of fun. In fact, it's almost half the fun of this hobby for me. If you are intent on buying, you may check with lockpickshop.com to see if they accept any other form of payment, such as International Money Order. Not sure if they do, but it wouldn't surprise me. You can also buy some nice Bogota picks at varjeal.com using paypal for payment, but I'm not sure that those are the best to have if they're your only picks.

Other than that, if you're really... really.... really.... lucky/charming, you could try and get friendly with a local locksmith and convince him to sell you a set... but seriously, if you are successful with that, you will count yourself among a very few.

You will almost certainly not find picks in a brick-and-mortar shop, except sometimes in the spy shop type stores, and you should be prepared to seriously overpay for them in those places.

I found pick in the most unusual place the had a funn selection of all brands of picks from SO to HPC, even indivieduals.. as DB said a simple SO plain no steal handle was 5$ BUT THEY SAY THRE FOR TREASURE HUNTERS TO PICK LOCKS UNDER WATER sorry for the caps i hit caps lock my accident, try the money order idea there is bound to be someone that will accept them, or scour ebay, i have found pick sets ont here already just search unual words like pin lifters and such be creative you wouldbe surprised what people sell on there.

I have to agree here - I have recieved a couple of picks to start off with from a locksmith (works with my father) - I actually started to enjoy the hobby much more when I started making my own picks. The only bad thing now is that every peice of metal or material I see ends up being mentally sized up for pick material.

Regarding getting the locksmith to sell me a set was not something I wanted to bring up, he gave me a couple of "extra" picks as I had mentioned - the first being an extractor, which I identified right off the bat and he was so impressed he gave me a bunch of locks to practice on (including a Primus).

This is most of my homebrew. If you find the right materials your equipment could last for more than a year.

If you use power tools (reccomended), wear eye protection!!!!

I have made one crappy ball pick so far but it takes forever on a dremel. I seem to be using it for raking instead of picking.

I made all of mine with the dremel and nothing else. You will get the hang of it eventually.
