I used to work ad-hoc in Civil Enforcement/Debt Collection and can assure you that there are many debt collection companies that will take on debts for any amount...large or small...and the success rate is high.
The company that I worked for once chased a debt for £1.25...and it was paid...the fee charged??? 10%...but that only took one letter. Most will take on debts on a no win no fee basis.
If someone owes a sum of money...I think it used to be over £750, then it is possible to take insolvency action against them (speak to a lawyer about this)....the threat of this often scares the living daylights out of them..especially if they own a house, etc. It is far more serious than a County Court Judgement.
The County Court is good with regard to getting a County Court Judgement against debtors, it is cheap and quick...and it will have an adverse affect on the persons credit rating for 6 years, making it akward to obtain mortgages, credit, bank accounts, etc. If this guy utilises a trade account to buy stock etc then this option could cause him problems!
If he does not pay, as ordered by the Judge, then you could obtain a Warrant of Execution which allows the bailiffs to take action. If yu go down this route then my best advice is to use a bailiff that is not employed directly by the court...as the court ones, in my experience...can be...a little too soft!!!
